Director, Markets & Festivals
The Public is a community uniting food lovers and food makers through markets, kitchens and retail.
Reporting to Senior Management, the Director of Markets & Festivals will be directly responsible to ensure the successful operations, administration, reporting and site staff management for the weekly markets, events and festivals within the “Powered by Public” network. This includes vendor communications, market programming and pop-ups, retail pop-ups in the community, special activations, sponsorship and management of stakeholder and sponsorship relations as it pertains to start-to-finish market and event production.The first activation for this role would be the production of our flagship market, the 124 Grand Market.
Operations & Administration
- Directly responsible for successful planning and executing of all “Powered by Public” farmers markets, public market locations and network locations. This includes permits, licensing, street closures (if applicable), insurance and all other documentation
- Directly responsible for planning and executing site logistics, rentals (if applicable), site maps, set up/tear down, storage
- Responsible for planning and executing safe and efficient set up, teardown and storage of equipment and site needs (require some heavy lifting)
- Processing all vendor applications and scheduling vendors for all market/event locations
- Working with governing and licensing agencies IE/ City of Edmonton, Alberta Health Services, AGLC, Fire Safety, Police, Transportation etc.
- Responsible for scheduling and management of site and office teams and all staff at market or event locations
- Responsible for reporting and documentation; overseeing admin processes such as incident reports, weekly reporting and vendor communication
- Responsible for overseeing and executing budgets, invoicing and collection of vendor dues and payments
- Grant applications, fund development, sponsorship development and relationships
- Working with communications and marketing teams on marketing deliverables and timelines
- Responsible for recruitment and management of vendor groups at all market locations
- Weekly Vendor communications
- Customer experience and market or event programs IE/ Little Beans, Market Bucks
- Responsible for managing programs such as Little Beans and Market Bucks both on and off site
- Directly responsible for managing vendor and customer experience, site design, wayfinding and signage, working with partners in these areas
- Able to to work with designers and execute design or decor plans
- Responsible for on site entertainment
- Other programming needs as required
Stakeholders, Sponsorship & Partners
- Responsible for building new sponsorship relationships and seek out new opportunities
- Responsible for community and business engagement and communication
- Responsible for management of existing relationships and sponsors
- Recruit and oversee donations, in-kind donations and fundraising or grant opportunities
- Reporting and communication
- Working with comms team to communicate any marketing deliverables as it pertains to these relationships
Personnel
- Scheduling and managing site and support teams, seasonal staff, interns
- Overseeing safety procedures with staff and volunteers
- Recruitment and management of Volunteers
- Volunteer recognition
Other responsibilities include:
- Attending community or networking events to promote our brand
- Working alongside marketing team to outline timelines and needs (socials, ad buying, website updates, other communications needs)
- Assisting with operations at the retail focused “Public Outpost Pop-up” locations as needed
